What is it

A pitch summarises the problem and solution that a team worked on during the Jam. It is a story that includes the initial business problem, the related data challenges, the key user insights and the prototyped digital solution. This tool will enable facilitators to organise the pitch shareback and to empower participants as they develop their presentations.

How to do it

1 Brief the participants

Tell teams that they can produce Presentation slides ↓ or a Presentation board ↓, and provide them with the materials they prefer. Instruct them that they will have five minutes to walk through the problem and solution they worked on with other participants.

2 Share best practices
  • Be a storyteller: Set the scene. Don't get too abstract. Explain your solution from a user perspective to help your audience follow along.
  • Be visual: People won't read your slide if it's full of text. Plan what you will say and show.
  • Be focused: Don't talk about all possibilities or get lost in the details. Talk about that one problem you are solving well.
  • Be conversational: Avoid buzzwords and empty slogans. Be sharp and concise with your wording.
  • Be provocative: Inspire experts to provide feedback and insights.
  • Be professional: Imagine taking your solution to future partners and clients. Impress them.
  • Be prepared: Practice your presentation. You will have limited time, so make the most of it.
  • Be strategic: Plan how you would like to be remembered. Be clear and consistent with your key messages.
3 Manage the share back

Assign the order in which teams will present. Ensure that this order is followed by signalling teams at the appropriate times. Ask the audience to save their feedback on Post-it notes and to ask questions or share comments at the end of each presentation. Should time run out, instruct them to pass their Post-its to the presenters.
