What is it

To provide a positive environment for participants to share their ideas, setting ground rules for brainstorming is essential. This will foster team collaboration and lead to more creative solutions.

How to do it

1 Explain the rules

With the presentation: Download, project and go through the Brainstorming rules ↓ presentation with the entire Jam group.

Without the presentation: Explain the following rules:

Don't criticise: Let ideas run. There will be time later to select and refine ideas.
Go for quantity: Keep ideas on a high level. Give enough explanation so that others can understand the main idea. Don’t dwell on details.
Build on each other’s ideas: Ask participants to develop what someone has pointed out. Small improvements can make big changes.
Encourage wild thinking: Participants that start with “I know this might sound crazy but…” could be on to a successful idea.
Be visual: Don’t be afraid to draw. Anyone can do it, not only designers. Words can describe what we’re imagining, but a diagram can help develop ideas faster and more collaboratively.
